Because Oi, Hayaku! has gone down, I have taken my posts from OH! and brought them to MANiME for the sake of completion. This was the fourth official post in the blog, titled “Cause and Effect Vol.01 – Lolita Complex”, posted in January 15th, 2009. I hope you enjoy.
Original Excerpt: You’d think that since the term Lolita was created by a white dude, the Westerners would be responsible for pedophilia. You’d be amazed at how wrong you are.
Sometime in the past century, a white dude named Vladimir Nabokov wrote a sickening story about a dude who fell in love with a little girl who reminded him of his childhood sweetheart and tried to get funky with her. Then, two years ago, I was forced to read the fucking novel for an English class. Long story short, I didn’t finish it and read the summary in Wikipedia. The book Lolita sparked the use of the world lolita (fucking duh?) which has come to take a significant part in the anime and manga culture.
The term lolicon is familiar with almost anyone who’s spend some amount of time in the anime and manga universe, and lolita fashion (with gothic lolita being the most famous, perhaps) has captured the hearts of otaku everywhere. Case in point, Rozen Maiden.
If the West created the term lolita, then why am I blaming the Japanese for spreading pedophilia across the world? Because, simply put, the Japanese took the lolita and threw her in the faces of the rest of the world. They did this through two methods – shounen manga and magical girls.

If shounen manga has one rule it is of the younger generation surpassing the older. Naruto is particularly anal about it, spewing shit about the younger generation every other fucking chapter. In the name of connecting with the younger readers, the characters of shounen manga are young, very young. And they become even younger. First, they’re in high school. Then it’s middle school. Then we get even further to elementary school. If you think about it, the main characters of Naruto were 10 at the start of the series, and even with the time skip they’re still far from adulthood. Bleach’s main characters are in high school, and even the shinigami that are hundreds of years old look to be in their teens. And the obvious rule of otaku is that these characters appear in doujinshi.
And you know who gets their hand on those doujinshi.

At one point or another in her life, a little girl dreams of becoming a magical girl. It’s like how boys want to be ninja wizards that shoot lasers from their eyes. Pandering to that dream are the corrupt animation studios and vile mangaka in the world, who exploit those innocent dreams by taking them and giving it to overweight lazy virgins who have no purpose in life. Take, for instance, Magic Girl Lyrical Nanoha. While being a magic girl series, it’s made primarily for men of ages 19 to 30. Again, like with shounen manga, these series are violated by the rule of the otaku and left in the alley. Most series passed away from the shock, and the ones that did, like Nanoha StrikerS, suffered from post-traumatic stress and were mangled horribly.
This is Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha before the violation.

This is Nanoha StrikerS after the violation.

This is Nanoha StrikerS after getting some therapy.

But is Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita the true origin of the lolita complex? Well, this may surprise you. The first example of moe, the character that would eventually fuel Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita… was Astro Boy. Yes, Astro Boy. A young and nubile bare chested robot child who captured the heart of millions. While Lolita was published in 1955, Astro Boy started in 1952, a whole three years PRIOR. Moreover, we have evidence that Vladimir Nabokov wrote Lolita only after divine inspiration from one man.

So, the truth is revealed. Vladimir Nabokov created the term lolita. But even he was nothing more than an unwitting pawn of that devious devil, Osamu Tezuka.
Cause and effect. A man causes, an effect happens. The creation of the lolita complex is yet another volume in the series of cause and effect. Thus, in the end, we come to a conclusion. Vladimir Nabokov created the term lolita, and Osamu Tezuka created Vladimir Nabokov. Thus, by the rule of logic, Osamu Tezuka created lolita, and therefore, manga and anime are responsible for the pedophilia.
And that’s a heaping pile of truth you can’t disagree with.
